Rangers: Neil McCann reacts to Philippe Clement controversy v Ross County

Neil McCann believes Philippe Clement is not feeling any pressure despite initially failing to shake Don Cowie’s hand after Rangers’ shock 3-2 defeat to Ross County on Sunday 14 April.

The Gers manager was criticised after a mad dash for the tunnel at full-time, missing an embrace with the Staggies head coach as Rangers failed to keep the pressure on Old Firm rivals Celtic.

However, footage later posted via X by Le Souness showed the Belgian returning from to greet Cowie while the County manager did media duties.

Questioned whether the pressure was getting to Clement, quoted by FootballScotland on Tuesday (16 April), McCann replied: “Absolutely not. I understand that pressure having played there (at Rangers) as a player and can only imagine how intense it must be as a manager.

“I don’t think he is losing his head. People can look into things that he has said but I think he has remained pretty consistent.”

Shaking hands with the opposition manager is a sign of respect, something that has always been a normality in the world of football.

While fans had the right to be frustrated with Clement’s original actions, the Rangers manager amended his error after running away following the shocking loss.

Rangers were clear favourites to defeat Ross County and take one step closer to their second league title in the last decade, but Celtic have now been handed a boost in their bid for the trophy.

A Jack Baldwin own goal saw the Gers take an inevitable lead before goals from Simon Murray, George Harmon and Josh Sims shellshocked Clement’s side.

A late James Tavernier penalty was too little too late as Rangers were condemned to, what could be, a crucial defeat in the current Scottish Premiership campaign.

They will also be favourites when they face Dundee at Dens Park on Wednesday 17 April, though a victory would still leave them one point behind their title rivals.

In other Rangers news, Michael Stewart is liable to explode as a notoriously unpopular element to the Dundee controversy emerges.
