Chris Sutton instantly reacts to Rangers draw v Dundee as Sky Sports show ugly scenes at Dens Park

Chris Sutton has shared his immediate reaction to Rangers’ Scottish Premiership draw with Dundee amid ugly scenes at Dens Park.

Philippe Clement’s side missed the opportunity to close the gap to Celtic at the top of the Premiership table as they failed to convert a string of chances before succumbing to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday (17 April).

The full-time whistle was greeted with a chorus of boos from the away end and Sky Sports were quick to show the travelling supporters’ frustration towards the Gers stars as Sutton slammed their “pedestrian” performance.

Speaking on Sky Sports Football (17 April, 21:59) he said: “We spoke about a lack of combination play in the first half. I think we all felt we’d see a different Rangers in the second half, a little bit like the game at the weekend.

“It didn’t happen, there was no real speed or pace to the passing, it was slow, it was pedestrian. What did that allow Dundee to do? It allowed them to get in their shape, made them difficult to play through and actually Dundee saw this game through pretty comfortably and deserved a point.”

Rangers and Philippe Clement hand Celtic boost in title race much to Chris Sutton’s delight

Sutton is right in his assessment of the Gers’ performance. It was devoid of any quality or pace and Clement’s side were actually fortunate to come away with a point as they flattered to deceive for much of the game.

Celtic were already given a major boost to their title hopes when the Light Blues fell to a surprise defeat against Ross County last time out, but Wednesday’s defeat at Dens Park means the Hoops have one hand on the trophy.

Too often, Rangers have struggled to step up when it’s counted and that was exactly the case once again against Dundee. At no point in the game did it ever really feel like the Gers would come away with all three points.

Something has to change sooner rather than later at Ibrox otherwise pressure is going to begin to mount on Clement. These players have got two managers sacked in the space of a year and they could well do that again if this continues.
