Rangers: Jack Butland ‘not worried’ about being a point behind Celtic ahead of Dundee clash

Jack Butland isn’t worried about Rangers being a point behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race ahead of his side’s crunch match against Dundee.

It was a hugely frustrating day for the Gers last time out as they fell to a 3-2 defeat against Ross County away from home.

On Wednesday night (17 April), Philippe Clement’s side travel to face Dundee in a rearranged fixture due to poor pitch conditions at Dens Park. Three points can only see the Light Blues go a point behind Celtic on level terms.

Despite this being an annoyance to fans, Butland has been quoted by Football Scotland (16 April) as saying that it wasn’t on the mind of himself or his teammates.

He said: “I think we’ve done extremely well to get back to where we are. We’ve come from behind, we were way adrift, one point if we win tomorrow is not unachievable or unattainable or something that can’t be done or hasn’t been done before.

“It’s not something we’re worried about, we know what we have to do wherever the game is played. Obviously, there’s been some issues with this one tomorrow night but it’s gonna go ahead where it should go ahead.

“And ultimately we’ll take that in stride tomorrow night and see where we get. We’ve got to win borderline every game and that’s what we’ll be looking to do.”

How good has Jack Butland been for Rangers recently?

Rangers have failed to win in their last two league games but there is no doubt that the Englishman has been in superb form.

For a goalkeeper who has conceded six goals in 180 minutes, he has still proved himself to be a vital asset for Clement’s side.

According to FotMob, against Ross County, he was able to make three saves and frustration was there that he saw three go past him. His ability with the ball at his feet was on show as he completed 18 passes after having 28 touches of the ball.

Butland, 31, was similarly on top form against Celtic in the Old Firm. He again was unfortunate to concede three but made four top saves to keep the score down. With 43 touches, it was clear his teammates trusted him in possession [FotMob].

With the game against Dundee coming up, the England squad hopeful will be looking to add to his 17 SPFL clean sheets for the first time since February.
