Rangers: Chris Sutton ‘excited’ live on BBC after ‘shock’ 3-2 Ross County defeat

Chris Sutton admitted he is now excited after Rangers lost 3-2 to Ross County on April 14 after a shock result which he thinks will have “knocked the stuffing out” of the Ibrox club.

The BBC pundit went on to insist that Celtic will have an advantage when the Old Firm derby takes place at Parkhead, although he admitted Philippe Clement’s side still have the title in their hands.

He detailed the importance of their game in hand, a midweek clash with Dundee at Dens Park, as it will provide an opportunity for them to narrow the gap to just one point.

Speaking live on the BBC Sport Monday Night Club [15 April], Sutton shared: “Unbelievably, Ross County went 3-1 up and I am getting slightly excited. That has knocked the stuffing out of Rangers a little bit.

“The pressure is really on Rangers on Wednesday night at Dundee. They will have to go to Celtic Park with no fans and people are looking at that as an advantage to Celtic, but it’s not over. It’s still in their hands but I suppose that was a real shock.”

Celtic to benefit as Rangers stutter v Ross County

If Rangers had done as expected and taken all three points away from Dingwall on 14 April, the gap to Celtic would sit at just one point ahead of the game in hand at Dundee, providing the opportunity to leapfrog their rivals with a win at Dens Park.

Now, though, that game in hand has taken on new meaning as a loss will all-but-lose Rangers the title, allowing Celtic to put distance between themselves and the chasers with the title well and truly in their hands.

Rangers’ mentality had previously been questioned with the next Old Firm clash set to be the true test of that, but with a defeat to Ross County, they will need to prove Sutton wrong and show they still have some fight left.

Brendan Rodgers’ side will now know that if they can win the rest of their games, they will win the league. A tougher task than it may sound, and the same is the case for Clement’s team, as that clash at Parkhead will likely prove the decider.
