Rangers: Philippe Clement shares what he’s been told after Dens Park verdict as rain forecast
Philippe Clement says officials have assured Rangers there is no chance of the game with Dundee being moved despite the threat of more rain.
The SPFL, as well as both clubs, confirmed on Tuesday afternoon (16 April) that the following day’s game is set to be held at Dens Park.
After two previous postponements of the fixture, it looks set to be third time lucky as it has passed a pitch inspection.
As per BBC Weather, it is forecast to rain intermittently on the day of the game, particularly in the hours leading up to kick-off.
However, speaking at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday (16 April), Clement said there is full confidence the pitch will be fine.
“Those who have decided the game will go ahead are sure it will take place at Dens Park tomorrow,” he said, via the club’s official X account.
“They are aware of the forecast and are sure the pitch will cope with that.”
Dens Park given green light for Dundee v Rangers
The SPFL stepped in and made sure a decision was made with regards to where this game was being played a good 30-plus hours ahead of kick-off.
It is a decision that should have been made prior to last week’s rearranged game, which for the second time was called off on the day of the match.
Had Dens Park failed a pitch inspection, the match would have been held at McDiarmid Park instead, meaning fans would have to make alternative arrangements.
As it is, though, Dundee will be hosts in what is a massive contest for Rangers so quick on the back of the shock loss at Ross County.
While the pitch has been given the green light, heavy downpours would surely make it unplayable again on Wednesday (17 April).
However, the rain that is forecast does not look to be too persistent and therefore it looks like the game will finally be played.
It is now over to the Rangers players to ensure they turn up and pick up the three points that are quite simply needed.
