Jack Butland shares Rangers admission after what happened to Ibrox giants

Jack Butland has made it clear that the Rangers performance against Ross County was poor but believes it will act as motivation moving forward.

It came as a shock to everyone but the Gers fell to defeat against County for the first time ever on Sunday. Three quick second-half goals from the home side were enough to render James Tavernier’s penalty and a Jack Baldwin own-goal meaningless.

The performance led to plenty of criticism from fans and pundits but according to Butland, it will serve as a reminder moving forward.

As quoted by Football Scotland on 16 April, the goalkeeper said: “There’s nobody in the building who’s concerned about that, we know it wasn’t good enough and it’s a reminder to everyone of the standards and requirements here.

“People have written us off before, not just this season, I’m sure many other seasons gone by there were other opportunities. But it’s up to us, nobody else, and what we do between now and the end of the season.”

Can Rangers still win the Scottish Premiership?

After the Ross County defeat, it did feel as if the title race may be over. Despite this, a win against Dundee on Wednesday night (17 April) would bring the Light Blues to within a point of their bitter rivals.

With five games set to follow the split, with one against Celtic, the league is far from over but Rangers need to start winning.

Philippe Clement’s side has won two of their last five league games which isn’t good enough for a side chasing the title. In that time, they have conceded ten goals which includes six in just the last two fixtures.

This is where the problem begins as, even with the form of Butland, the Gers need to score three goals in most games to even get a point. Goals haven’t been so much of an issue with them scoring 11 but has only helped to accumulate seven points.

By comparison, Celtic have lost just once since late December and have won all but three games in that time, taking the initiative in the title race.

There is still plenty of time and chance for Rangers to win the title and like Butland said, they need to use frustrating defeats to spur them on.

In other Rangers news, Sutton admitted he was excited while watching the defeat.
