Rangers: James Tavernier could cash in on Ibrox exit with Saudi Arabia move on cards

Rangers captain James Tavernier could already have one eye on the exit door at Ibrox, according to Keith Jackson.

The Daily Record journalist shared continued rumours of a move to Saudi Arabia in the summer, where the skipper could cash in after years at the club.

Tavernier was caught out for two Ross County goals in the costly 3-2 defeat on 14 April, he did score a late penalty in consolation, but that hardly mitigated his horror show in defence.

In his Daily Record column, Jackson said; “If Tavernier already has one eye on cashing it all in in Saudi Arabia – or anywhere else for that matter – then he’s the wrong man in the wrong place right now that the entire season is on the line.”

Rangers title pursuit comes off the rails at Ross County

The task for Phillips Clement’s Rangers was simple going into the match at Ross County – win their two games in hand and overtake Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table in the process.

With the rest of the league – bar Dundee – all having played 33 matches before the division splitting into two, Rangers simply had to play well enough and be clinical enough to secure three points against the Premiership’s second-bottom side.

An early own-goal, bundled into his net by County defender Jack Baldwin, gave Rangers the lead at half-time, but straight after the break they were hit on the counter-attack twice in as many minutes and found themselves 2-1 down.

Tavernier’s impact over nine seasons at Rangers has been remarkable, but he could be set to leave Ibrox in the next few months.

The shell-shocked Gers couldn’t fight their way back into the game and were soon losing 3-1, with Tavernier caught napping once again as Josh Sims put the Staggies’ faithful into dreamland.

Tavernier did somewhat recover from his defensive calamities to score from the spot late on, but that hardly saves face for the captain, who, along with the rest of his team, looked lost in Dingwall.

With their twice-rearranged fixture against Dundee coming up in just a few days, the onus is on Rangers, and Tavernier, to get their flailing season back on track.
