Rangers: James McFadden wowed by what ‘magnificent’ Jack Butland did despite loss v Ross County
Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland left James McFadden stunned with an “absolutely magnificent” save despite the Gers’ defeat to Ross County.
Philippe Clement’s Light Blues missed the chance to close the gap at the top of the table as they were beaten 3-2 by Don Cowie’s team on Sunday (14 April) in a massive blow to their title hopes.
Having taken a lead into the break, Simon Murray quickly levelled things two minutes into the second half as he tapped in from close range, but Sky Sports pundit McFadden was blown away by Butland’s save in the build-up.
Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event (14 April, 13:12) he said: “The first save is absolutely magnificent from Jack Butland and Rangers. We’re looking for them to start the second half with more energy, the last two times Morgan’s been on the ball he’s had time to get his head up and play the pass.
“That save there is magnificent from Jack Butland and Simon Murray doesn’t miss the second time.”
Will Jack Butland complete Rangers transfer exit this summer?
It speaks volumes about how Rangers have been playing in recent weeks that Butland has been the man stealing the headlines week in and week out at Ibrox with his excellent performances between the posts.
In the Old Firm showdown with Celtic, the Englishman kept Clement’s side in the match in the first half with a string of excellent saves that stopped Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops from running away with it at Ibrox.

Keeping him beyond the summer transfer window will not be easy for the Gers, especially given the interest from the Premier League in the January window, but it will be crucial to Clement being a success in the future.
However, if the Gers have genuine ambitions of lifting the Premiership title both this season and in the near future, they simply have to do more to take the pressure off their goalkeeper as he is being worked too hard week in and week out.
