Kris Boyd speaks out about Rangers ‘myth’ live on Sky Sports after crushing Ross County defeat

Kris Boyd has dismissed the “myth” that Rangers need to go behind in order to up their performance following their defeat against Ross County on Sunday (14 April).

Speaking on Sky Sports Football on Sunday (02:18pm), host Eilidh Barbour mentioned how the pundits had suggested earlier in the programme that going behind could kick-start them after they put in a below-poor performance in the first half.

But after admitting that he expected the Light Blues to come out stronger after the break, Boyd added that they were actually worse as he conceded that Philippe Clement’s side were “miles off it” as they fell to a 3-2 defeat in Dingwall.

“We said this is probably going to be what Rangers need, to go behind, to kick-start them, to get the levels back, but it didn’t happen,” said Barber.

“That’s a myth,” replied Boyd. “When everybody says you want to go behind or you get an early goal, you’ve scored too early and everything. Listen, if you find yourself ahead and Rangers have been excellent up here over the years, left with victories.

“You get yourself ahead when you’ve not been great, obviously it’s an own goal. Then you think you’ve got ahead, come out the second half and lift it after the managers had a go at you and everything.

“They were worse in the second half. We’re sitting here and saying Ross County were excellent, Rangers were miles off it today, absolutely miles.”

Rangers need to find consistency in title race

It simply wasn’t a good enough performance from the Rangers players as they were off the pace from the opening minutes and didn’t deserve anything from the game.

The Staggies actually had an excellent opportunity to take the lead before Jack Baldwin put through his own net, but the Gers didn’t kick on from that point onwards.

While Philippe Clement will still feel confident about his side’s chances of lifting the title, there is no doubt that they need to improve over the coming weeks.

Rangers boss Philippe Clement shouldn’t be blamed for his players’ poor pre-season performances

After the Belgian had an excellent start to life at Ibrox, there have just been a few question marks creeping in over the past few matches and they have to find some consistency again.

That needs to start in the rearranged fixture against Dundee, where the Light Blues fans will be demanding a reaction from their side.
