Chris Sutton reacts to Rangers controversy in 3-2 loss v Ross County, ‘Unlucky’
Chris Sutton believes Rangers were right to be awarded a penalty in the second half of their defeat against Ross County on Sunday (14 April).
Speaking on Sky Sports Football on Sunday (02:24pm), the pundit said Brandon Khela was “unlucky” to concede the spot kick, but he conceded that the ball hit his arm.
Sutton couldn’t help himself from firing a jibe at the Gers, though, as he suggested that he’s used to seeing Philippe Clement’s side handed penalties, with James Tavernier’s resulting effort not proving to be enough to inspire a late comeback as the Staggies secured a 3-2 victory.
“It’s the position of the arm,” said Sutton. “You could say it’s a little bit unlucky, but he jumps using his arms, his knee is up. I don’t think any of us are going to complain, we’re used to Rangers getting penalties.”
Rangers can’t afford any more slip-ups after Ross County defeat
There is little doubt that Rangers were right to be awarded a penalty as Khela’s arm was outstretched, with VAR asking the referee to go the monitor after the initial appeals were dismissed on the field.
He didn’t take much time before deciding an offence had been committed as Tavernier confidently stepped up to find the bottom corner.
But that wasn’t enough for the Gers as an extremely poor second-half performance meant they headed back to Glasgow without any points in what was a blow to their title hopes.

It’s no surprise to see Sutton still take the chance to poke fun at the Light Blues’ penalty record, which has been a bone of contention this season.
But that isn’t something the Light Blues can afford to worry about as they have some big fixtures coming up as they look to wrestle back the initiative in the title race.
