Rangers: New ‘problem’ for Philippe Clement v Dundee after what happened on Saturday

Rangers could beset with a “problem” against Dundee in their “elusive” Scottish Premiership fixture according to Neil McCann, after the Dens Park side secured a spot in the top six.

Rangers’ bid to secure top spot in the table will be no easy feat against Dundee, with the promoted side sealing their place in the top half with a game to spare after a 0-0 draw at Aberdeen on Saturday.

Rangers are four points behind Celtic with two matches in hand, ahead of their game against Ross County on Sunday (14 April). They then face Dundee on 17 April in a match which has been postponed twice in the past month due to bad weather affecting the Dens Park pitch.

With Dundee secure in the top six going into the end-of-season split, McCann told BBC Sportsound on Saturday (13 April): “They’re going into that game and that might provide a problem for Rangers actually, because they’re so relaxed.

“They’re already there in the top six, they can maybe take the shackles off and have a right go at them so hopefully that does come around and gets played.”

Pressure on Rangers to make most of fixture frenzy

Rangers’ matches against Ross County and Dundee take place within 72 hours of one another and give Philippe Clement’s side the perfect opportunity to take the top spot in the Premiership before the 33-game split.

With most of the 12 teams now having played that number, the final shape of the table is now largely reliant on Rangers’ results in the next two games, with Dundee’s superb first season back in the top flight seeing them finish sixth.

Neil McCann played for both Rangers and Dundee, and believes the Dark Blues have what it takes to dent the Gers’ title hopes.

They could even improve on their position further with a win over Philippe Clement’s side and draw level with fifth-placed St. Mirren; while that may seem unlikely given the disparity of finances and facilities between the two clubs, Dundee’s secure place in the top half could see them really take the game to Rangers.

It’s a fixture which has been ‘elusive’ according to McCann, but with Dundee having achieved their goal prior to it being played, all the pressure is now switched firmly onto Rangers’ shoulders.
