Rangers: Chris Sutton slams Dujon Sterling live on Sky Sports for ‘rash’ incident v Ross County

Rangers defender Dujon Sterling has been slammed by Chris Sutton for a “rash” tackle during the Light Blues’ defeat to Ross County.

Philippe Clement’s side failed to close the gap to Celtic at the top of the Premiership as they were beaten 3-2 by Don Cowie’s men on Sunday (14 April) with three second-half goals giving the home team all three points.

While most of the damage was done before Sterling was even introduced in the second half, Sky Sports pundit Sutton was quick to lay blame on the Englishman for gambling with a heavy tackle in the penalty area.

Speaking on Sky Sports Football (14 April, 14:18) he said: “They soaked it up very, very well. I actually think Sterling who came on as a substitute makes a really rash decision.

“He gambles, if he gambles he has to win the ball and Sims sees him coming but it’s brilliant composure I must say. A quick first touch and he’s not going to miss from there. Even Butland in the form he’s in this season, he’s not going to save that.”

Rangers hand Celtic advantage in Premiership title race as Chris Sutton slams Dujon Sterling?

Rangers were so far off of their best against Ross County on Sunday as their backline was all over the place for all three of the home side’s goals. That is not acceptable of a side who are competing for the Premiership title.

While Sterling was one of many to be off of the pace in Clement’s side, his decision to dive in to try and deny Josh Sims an incredibly naive. The former Chelsea man was never in a position to win the ball and stop the attack.

Clement has a left-back problem at Ibrox currently, with Ridvan Yilmaz stuck on the treatment table, neither Sterling nor Borna Barisic have shown the consistency or composure to suggest they should start week in and week out.

Hopefully, Yilmaz can get back fit and available sooner rather than later. Sterling is not a natural left-back and the Englishman would be much better off if he was starting regularly either on the wing or in the middle of the park.
