Rangers boss Philippe Clement offends Celtic people as Sky Sports pundit blasts back at ‘nonsense’

Rangers manager Philippe Clement’s comments after his side’s 3-3 draw with Celtic have drawn the ire of some pundits, but Sky Sports’ Kenny Miller believes that those complaints are “nonsense”.

Rangers came back from both 2-0 and 3-2 down late in the second half to secure a point in 7 April’s Old Firm clash, and Clement’s post-match comment stating that it was a ‘moral victory’ has been called a “fair statement” by Miller.

The ex-Gers striker bemoaned that “few people on the green side of Glasgow” were offended by that comment from Clement, but said that from Rangers’ perspective, Rabbi Matondo’s 93rd minute leveller was “huge in the title race.”

Analysing Clement’s comments in the Daily Record, Miller believes that: “(Clement) was RIGHT to call the 3-3 draw at Ibrox a moral victory. How could it not be? When you’re 2-0 and 3-2 down in a derby and you score a last-minute equaliser, it feels like a win. And I don’t want to hear any nonsense about Clement supposedly over-celebrating with fans afterwards.”

Rangers ready to build on “moral victory” and finally overtake Celtic

Rangers have seen circumstances beyond their control delay their end to the season and go into 14 April’s match at Ross County four points behind Celtic at the summit, but with two games in hand on their Old Firm rivals.

If Philippe Clement’s side can match Celtic’s 3-0 victory over St. Mirren, they’ll close that gap to one, before – fingers crossed – taking on Dundee in their final match before the 33-game split.

Rabbi Matondo’s late equaliser drew Rangers level at 3-3 and sparked pandemonium in the stands at Ibrox.

It’s a game which has been postponed twice already due to bad weather and poor conditions at Dundee’s Dens Park stadium, and should the Gers claim three points from Ross County today, it’s shaping up to be a match which could define their season.

Miller’s comments agreeing with the “moral victory” claim made by Clement are backed up by the fact that in the Old Firm, Rangers appeared to be “out of it by half-time”. Celtic looked to have their rivals dead and buried, but Rangers rallied to keep pace with them at the top.

Celtic’s 33 matches are all wrapped up, but Rangers still have two to go – and after their second-half showing to twice equalise when all hope seemed lost, it looks like they’ve still got plenty to give, too.

In other Rangers news, a pundit has issued a claim on a player’s salary with a first-team Ibrox exit possible this summer.
