Rangers: Kris Boyd fumes live on Sky Sports after controversial Celtic incident at Ibrox

Kris Boyd shared a new rant live on talkSPORT after the penalty incident between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox as Fabio Silva was widely criticised for the way he won the penalty.

Outrage erupted following the game as people argued whether Silva had been fouled, despite replays showing he was kicked on the knee, with Chris Sutton the most vocal critic.

The former Celtic man was commentating live on the game and insisted the Rangers man had dived, later doubling down on his claim as he branded Silva “embarrassing”.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News [13 April, 13:23], Boyd ranted: “I know there’s a lot of people speaking about this in terms of it not being a penalty – it’s an absolute stone-waller.

“It doesn’t matter if he gets a touch on it, he’s still getting to the ball and he’s been kicked in the knee. It’s a penalty kick. This is a penalty, it’s unbelievable.”

The outrage following the game came from John Beaton’s decision to immediately brandish his yellow card against Silva before a VAR check overruled his decision, kickstarting a debate about whether or not the right call was made.

Sutton’s ranting about the penalty encouraged Graeme Souness to hit out as he echoed Boyd’s view that it was a stonewall decision in Rangers’ favour, as Souness insisted it should not even have been a conversation to have.

Ultimately, the penalty was awarded and Tavernier tucked it away which put the first step in place for Philippe Clement’s side to complete a fantastic comeback and Celtic threw away a golden opportunity to take all three points.

Rangers
Kris Boyd doesn’t hide his love for Rangers very often in his punditry work.

With the debate surrounding the penalty decision likely to continue for some time given the loud viewpoints of both sides of the divide – expressed by Souness, Sutton and now Boyd – it doesn’t appear it will die down any time soon.

In other Rangers news, Boyd also responded to a Paul Merson claim live on Sky Sports.
