Rangers: Stumbling block on the cards as Sam Lammers seeks Ibrox exit – Pundit

Rob Alflen believes that Utrecht may not be able to offer Sam Lammers the kind of wages he will be on at Rangers.

Speaking to RTV Utrecht, as quoted by Football Scotland on 12 April, the SC Cambuur assistant manager believes that the Dutch side will still try to do everything they can to sign him.

The 26-year-old also would be keen to explore a permanent transfer despite no clause included in the loan deal.

Alflen said: “I don’t know whether that is possible in terms of salary.

“I think the differences are considerable, but I don’t know.

“What I do think is if there is an opportunity to keep him, then I would do my best [to do that].”

Rangers must negotiate a permanent transfer for Lammers

Gers must find a compromise to facilitate a permanent transfer of Lammers to Utrecht.

The Dutch attacker struggled to make an impact at Ibrox after his £3.5million transfer from Atalanta, but he has found his form in the Eredivisie, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 13 appearances for Utrecht since January.

The 26-year-old has gained favour with the Dutch side’s fans and he has expressed interest in making the move permanent.

For the Glasgow outfit, Lammers’ departure could free up funds and space on the squad for new players who better fit their needs.

Although Utrecht may struggle to match Lammers’ current salary at Ibrox, the clubs should negotiate a deal that allows Lammers to continue his successful stint in his homeland while providing Rangers with some financial relief.

Sam Lammers was sold by Rangers to FC Twente.

By reaching a compromise on the transfer fee or a loan-to-buy option with a lower initial payment, both clubs could benefit.
