Simon Jordan blasts ‘pathetic’ Rangers and Celtic as development emerges in last 24 hours
Simon Jordan has slammed Rangers and Celtic for their “pathetic” performances in the Champions League after the Scottish coefficient dropped yet again on 11 April.
With all three Scottish clubs dumped out of Europe this season, a 0-0 draw for Viktoria Plzen against Fiorentina on Thursday night meant Scotland’s champions will have to go through qualifying rounds to reach the Champions League.
This change will come into effect from next season as Jordan fumed at the “preposterous” rules for qualifying for Europe’s premier competition.
Speaking live on talkSPORT [12 April, 11:14] Jordan ranted: “That’s disappointing. It’s reverted to what it was and in part the reason for that is the pathetic performance of the two Scottish clubs in the Champions League qualifying groups.
“I’m disappointed because I want Scottish football to be better. I want it to produce the kind of players that it produced in the 70s and 80s so we can take them over to the Premier League and make them even better.
“But the point is that the Champions League is made up of so many teams that aren’t Champions. That’s something that’s fundamentally wrong. It’s preposterous.”
Simon Jordan slams ‘pathetic’ Rangers after Champions League update
Jordan’s latest Rangers rant has emerged, hitting out at both Old Firm clubs for their performances in European competitions which have directly led to their coefficient dropping below a league as small as the Czech First Division.
The news emerging from UEFA about the Scottish coefficient will be a huge blow to both Rangers and Celtic both competitively and financially given the importance of qualifying for the top competition to remain competitive.
UEFA funding is crucial for both clubs’ income to spend on both transfers and wages, and the increased possibility that they will now miss out on even a group stage appearance will be a huge blow to their income in the coming years.

Scottish football finds itself in and awful financial position as it is, and the lack of income from UEFA as a result of the changes will do it no favours as it continues to slip further away from its former glories in Europe.
