Chris Sutton mocks Rangers as he makes Dens Park ‘shambles’ all about Celtic

Chris Sutton has claimed Celtic could be worse off than Rangers after the rearranged fixture with Dundee as he slammed the “shambles” situation at Dens Park.

The former Celtic striker insisted that if results go Dundee’s way at the weekend and they secure a top-six place, they could take their foot off the gas when playing Rangers, handing them an easy victory.

Despite Celtic having the chance to go four points clear of Philippe Clement’s side this weekend, Sutton insists the situation could cause trouble at Parkhead.

Writing in his column for the Daily Record [12 April], Sutton ranted: “Spare me the talk this is only bad for Rangers. It could actually turn out worse for Celtic.

“I know they have the possibility of going four points clear at the top of the table now and no guarantee Rangers will get this one done next midweek. But if it does take place on Wednesday and results go Dundee’s way at the weekend, the pressure could be totally off them.

“They could already be assured of a top-six place and rather than scrapping to get in, they might feel the hard work is done.”

Could Rangers situation with Dundee affect Celtic?

Has anybody got a tiny violin to play for Sutton and Celtic? The situation at Dens Park has been nothing short of a shambles – he’s got that right – but somehow playing the victims in a situation which primarily affects Rangers is bizarre.

At the end of the day, all the postponed fixture has done is set Gers back in the title race. Rather than leading the table with an equal amount of games played and knowing things are in their hands, Clement’s team will be playing catch-up.

With Brendan Rodgers’ side set to host St Mirren at Celtic Park on Saturday, there will be a period where they can move four points clear – albeit with two more games played – meaning Gers will have to be chasers rather than leaders.

That could prove a psychological disadvantage for Clement’s team – although they have shown no concern when chasing previously. A win against Dundee, whenever the game takes place, is the most likely outcome regardless of the opponents’ situation.
