Rangers: Philippe Clement puts forward new solution to Dundee saga

Philippe Clement has suggested that Rangers would be willing to play Dundee behind closed doors in order to complete their Scottish Premiership clash.

Frustrations are at an all-time high after the Gers match at Dens Park was postponed for a second time this season, with a water-logged pitch the reason for the decision.

Rangers have even sent a letter to the SPFL, raising concerns about the situation, and suggesting that it shows Dundee’s “negligence and unprofessionalism” in Scotland’s top division. [Rangers FC]

Speaking in a press conference on Thursday (11 April), filmed by PLZ Soccer, Clement said:”If that is the decision, we will play behind closed doors. If they ask us to play on Mars, we go to Mars and we take the flight. To win the three points, it’s about that. That’s our mindset.”

Rangers v Dundee saga continues in the Scottish Premiership

Of course, Clement is exaggerating, but his passion to win the three points is commendable, even if it would mean playing the match behind closed doors without the Ibrox faithful.

There is no understating how important three points against Dundee could be for Rangers, with the game in hand able to take them above Old Firm rivals Celtic at the top of the table.

If the match is further postponed, and the Hoops are able to continue with their fixtures, the pressure could be mounting up for the Gers not to slip up against weaker opposition.

Separated by just one point, Rangers have the perfect opportunity to lift their second league title in the last decade and begin to disrupt Celtic’s dominance in Scotland.

Clement has already lifted his first piece of silverware at Ibrox, having beaten Aberdeen to the League Cup back in December, and he should also be satisfied with his team’s performances in the Europa League.

Though many would have expected more from the Gers in the Old Firm derby at Ibrox, being able to salvage a point was incredibly important in the grand scheme of Rangers’ season.

Rangers must find a way to play Dundee, and if it cannot be at Dens Park due to the pitch, the SPFL must find an alternative solution soon.

In other Rangers news, a Leeds-born striker has confirmed that he wants to move to Ibrox and is available on a free transfer this summer.
