Michael Beale shares new Rangers and Celtic title verdict amid ‘unique’ situation

Michael Beale believes the equalising goal from Rabbi Matondo in the Old Firm derby has kept the title race in both Rangers and Celtic’s hands.

Speaking on Sky Sports News on Wednesday (10 April, 07:28pm), the former Gers boss said a “unique situation” has now arisen where both sides can claim the Scottish Premiership trophy if they win their fixtures following the 3-3 draw on 7 April.

Although he admitted that the Light Blues have got the momentum at this moment in time, he added that there will be “a lot of twists and turns” heading into the split and the final few weeks of the season.

“The goal from Rabbi Matondo keeps it in both clubs’ hands,” said Beale. “It’s a unique situation now. Both clubs now that if they do the business in their fixtures, they will win it. But there will be a lot of twists and turns just yet.

“With the way the split is in the league, Celtic will play three at home and Rangers will only play two at home. Rangers will have to go away to Celtic as well. At this moment in time, Rangers are certainly the team with momentum, but it’s all to play for.”

Who has the edge in Rangers and Celtic title race?

It’s hard to call who has the edge in the title race given that the two sides are currently only separated by one point following their draw at Ibrox.

Rangers do still have a game in hand against Dundee following the second postponement of that fixture on Wednesday, meaning they can regain control of proceedings.

But if the sides are separated by just the odd point come the final Old Firm game of the season, then Celtic will be confident that they can lift the title after remaining unbeaten against the Gers this year.

Philippe Clement knows his side must improve in the big games if they want to come away from Celtic Park with a result despite their comeback in the latest instalment against their Glasgow rivals.

It’s going to be a thrilling final few weeks of the campaign as both sides know there is very little margin for error in their pursuit of the trophy.
