Rangers v Dundee: Ominous images emerge from Dens Park ahead of pitch inspection
Scott Burns has shared a new gloomy image of the Dens Park situation ahead of the rearranged fixture between Rangers and Dundee.
The Scottish Express journalist posted an image of the ominous-looking situation at the ground via Twitter on 10 April, ahead of the 3.30pm pitch inspection.
Referee Don Robertson declared the surface was sufficient earlier in the morning but heavy rain in the hours since has the outlook seemingly far more touch and go.
Puddles of water around the outskirts of the pitch are visible, with covers still on in the centre under dark and cloudy skies.
Rangers SPFL fixture at behest of Dens Park draining once more
It was less than ideal for the original trip to Dundee prior to the international break to be postponed thanks to a waterlogged pitch, so a potential second disruption will only complicate matters further.
The game in hand and being second in the table may or may not have had an effect of the Old Firm derby, but the dramatic 3-3 draw leaves this game as the potential difference between going top or not again.
With the split due following the weekend’s round of fixtures any further issues with the rearranged game will cause a whole lot more of a headache for the league schedulers, unless it is switched to another venue last-minute.
Stuart Kettlewell was unhappy that his Motherwell side were obliged to play at the weekend as they won 3-2 at Dens Park despite concerns over whether the game would go ahead.
The Well boss highlighted how Dundee have spent on the squad rather than the surface [Daily Record, 6 April], while scrapping the equipment to install VAR at the ground has also been mooted as a way to fund better drainage.
Clearly something needs to be done because it is a bad look for Scottish football to repeatedly have issues, and currently it is threatening to affect a tight Rangers title race.
