Rangers slam Dundee ‘negligence’ in statement after ’embarrassing’ new Dens Park update
Rangers have slammed Dundee for their “negligence and unprofessionalism” in a club statement following the postponement of their clash at Dens Park.
The Light Blues were due to face Tony Docherty’s side on Wednesday (10 April) after the original fixture was postponed because of an unplayable pitch, however, the rearranged clash has also now been called off.
Following the referees’ decision that the pitch was unplayable, Rangers have posted a statement on their website destroying Dundee for breaching the SPFL’s rules and have called for Docherty’s side to be punished.
Writing on the Rangers website (10 April) they said: “The negligence and unprofessionalism demonstrated by Dundee Football Club, where they have repeatedly breached SPFL rules, continues to have a damaging effect on the top professional league in the country.
“In a week where record TV viewing figures were recorded for a match in the same competition, and this evening’s game due to be televised again by Sky Sports, this episode is deeply embarrassing and has also been eminently avoidable.
“Rangers expects the SPFL to take proportionate and decisive action in accordance with its rules, and the club will continue to make representations to them in the strongest possible manner.”
When will Rangers play Dundee after latest postponement?
This situation would have been incredibly frustrating for all involved and while nobody on either side can control the weather, it does seem ridiculous that neither the SFA nor Dundee could have seen this happening.
The Gers’ Old Firm derby on Sunday (7 April) was an excellent advert for the Scottish game, but all that good work has almost been immediately undone by the unprofessional manner in which this entire situation has been handled.
It is inexcusable that in a top league where clubs compete in the Champions League games are still being called off because of water-logged pitches, especially when the rain had eased slightly ahead of the pitch inspection.
Hopefully, the Light Blues’ statement will be heard by those in charge at the SPFL and some sort of action will be taken against Dundee as this has happened far too often this season and has brought an exciting title race to a standstill.
