Rangers: Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist crack up live on talkSPORT after Champions League claim

Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist could not contain their laughter as an image emerged of AI predicting the next 100 Champions League winners, with both Rangers and Celtic included.

The image went viral on social media and was shared by SportBible on X, leading Brazil to question whether either Old Firm club could win a European trophy in the near future.

McCoist insisted not, while Brazil joked they’d have a better chance at winning the Eurovision Song Contest as the pair cracked up olive on air.

The pair were discussing the image live on talkSPORT [10 April, 08:21] and could not help but laugh at the ridiculousness of it all, joking about the likelihood of winning anything in Europe.

“Celtic will have to wait until 2063 for another European title whilst Rangers will win back-to-back titles in 2091 and 2092… Who wrote this?”, Brazil shared as McCoist cracked up laughing.

“Can you see Celtic or Rangers ever winning a European trophy, any type of European trophy again? Maybe the song contest. Come on the Eurovision”, Brazil joked.

McCoist then added: “I’ll tell you, unless something changes dramatically, it won’t be in our lifetime.”

Champions League win off the cards at Rangers and Celtic

It was a hilarious suggestion that AI could predict European winners in 100 years and an even funnier reaction from McCoist and Brazil, but it is also a reflection of how much football has changed since the Old Firm clubs were regarded as European contenders.

McCoist is right, it has become impossible for clubs like the Old Firm sides to compete in UEFA competitions due to the finances involved for the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid, PSG and Bayern Munich.

The phrase ‘The rich get richer’ is thrown around a lot in football, but it is perhaps most prevalent when discussing the Champions League. The money from UEFA tournaments is crucial to clubs like Rangers and Celtic, but they never get far enough to truly reap those rewards.

With the money involved in the biggest European clubs, that gap continues to grow between those at the top and the hopeful clubs at the bottom of that chain, with no respite from that likely to emerge despite reforms to the Champions League format.
