Rangers: Rabbi Matondo likened to Cristiano Ronaldo after ‘world class’ moment v Celtic at Ibrox

Neil McCann likened Rabbi Matondo to Cristiano Ronaldo with the goal he scored in the 3-3 draw between Rangers and Celtic.

The Wales international scored a sublime goal in added time to snatch a point for the Gers in Sunday’s (7 April) thriller at Ibrox.

Matondo, a second-half substitute, cut inside and found the far corner in a very similar goal to the one scored against Hibernian the previous week.

Speaking on BBC Scotland Sportscene [7 April, 42m 25s], McCann said: “He did it last week against Hibs as well.

“This is basically a carbon copy of that, but maybe an upgrade. It’s fortunate that Todd Cantwell gambles and does well.

“He pops it to John Lundstram and you’re thinking ‘right, get it to Matondo, get one-v-one’. He should be shown down the outside, but he’s allowed to come in on his stronger right side.

“That being said, the finish is world class. It’s not so much whipped, but more Ronaldo-esque as he hits it underneath to get the ball up and down quick. It’s a sensational finish and Joe Hart is nowhere near it.”

Rabbi Matondo in good form for Rangers

Matondo has been mainly used as a substitute this season, but he has had more than a few big moments across the course of the campaign.

The former Cardiff City ace now has five goals and three assists in his 17 Scottish Premiership outings, including a goal in back-to-back games.

Indeed, since the winter break, Matondo has four goals and an assist in 10 games, which is more impressive when factoring in his minutes.

The vast majority of those games have seen him brought on in the latter stages, yet he is making the most of his opportunities.

If Rangers are to complete a domestic treble this season, they need their whole squad to chip in.

Right now, Matondo is very much doing that and has surely earned himself a starting spot against Dundee in midweek.

In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton was shocked at what he saw a player do in the draw at Ibrox.
