Rangers v Celtic: Neil Lennon ‘disappointed’ by what Philippe Clement said after Old Firm draw

Neil Lennon has hit back at Philippe Clement for his “moral winners” comments following a 3-3 thriller between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox on Sunday (7 April).

First-half goals from Daizen Maeda and Matt O’Riley gave the Hoops a 2-0 lead before James Tavernier and Abdallah Sima tied up the score. Adam Idah looked to have scored a late winner before Rabbi Matondo unleashed a special effort in the third minute of added time.

Following the draw at Ibrox, Clement was relatively happy about the result, stating that his side were the “moral winners” despite only managing to claim a point. [Sky Sports]

Speaking via PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show podcast on Monday (8 April), former Bhoys boss Lennon reacted to the comments, saying: “I’m disappointed with some of his comments after the game.

“I didn’t agree with it, and I don’t know what a ‘moral victory’ means in an Old Firm derby. You either win it or you lose it.”

Will Rangers pip Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title?

All hope looked lost for Clement’s side after Celtic took a 2-0 lead into the half-time break. Maeda opened the scoring within seconds, taking advantage of a freak mistake by Tavernier.

Though just one point against their Old Firm rivals may not be enough to placate all supporters, the main thing is that Rangers were able to walk away without a loss like the previous two fixtures.

The Gers also have a game in hand on their rivals and could knock Celtic off the top of the Scottish Premiership table when they face Dundee on Wednesday 10 April.

The title race is set to go right down to the wire, meaning Clement’s side cannot afford to slip up any more than they did against Celtic on Sunday.

With the number of returnees from injury recently, Rangers definitely have the ability in their squad to see out the league. Celtic are also unlikely to drop points now, so the pressure is well and truly on for both teams.
