Rangers: Kris Boyd snubs notable Ibrox name in Team of the Week after Celtic thriller

Kris Boyd has named Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo in his Team of the Week for the latest round of Scottish Premiership fixtures.

Matondo scored a late equaliser in Sunday’s (7 April) 3-3 draw at Ibrox and is the only Gers player to make the cut in Boyd’s team.

Matt O’Riley, on target from the penalty spot, is the only Celtic player to be named in the team, as per The Scottish Sun via X [8 April].

St Johnstone dominate the team with three players – David Keltjens, Matt Smith and Adama Sidibeh – following their 2-1 win at Hibernian.

Jack Butland stars for Rangers vs Celtic

Matondo deserves praise for his impressive impact from the substitutes’ bench, even earning himself comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo in the process.

The Wales international now has goals in back-to-back games and has really stepped up since the winter break, which has surely earned him a start against Dundee in midweek.

Others in the Rangers side also caught the eye, not least Jack Butland. The Gers keeper made some sublime stops in the first half to ensure the game was not entirely out of reach.

Butland has been arguably the Light Blues’ best player this season and will likely be rewarded with a place in the England squad for Euro 2024 this summer.

At the same time, Rangers did concede three goals, whereas Livingston drew 0-0 with Aberdeen and so Shamal George is selected in Boyd’s Team of the Week.

Butland will not care, of course, with the only two accolades any Rangers player wants right now being the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup.
