Rangers: Gary Lineker teases Micah Richards in ‘screaming’ Celtic admission
Gary Lineker teased Micah Richards after the former Manchester City defender shared he was screaming at the Celtic defence when Rabbi Matondo scored Rangers’ equaliser late in the Old Firm derby.
Richards confessed he was urging the defenders to show Matondo the other way as he was allowed to cut in and curl past Joe Hart to level the score at 3-3 in the 93rd minute.
Lineker joked that Richards was revealing his Celtic fandom before he clarified he was watching to keep across all of the games and would remain impartial.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast on Monday [8 April], Richards shared: “It was absolutely ferocious. You know when Matondo got the ball, I was screaming at the defender to just show him wide. I’m screaming.”
Lineker then questioned: “Is that because you’re a Celtic fan, Micah? That’s why you were screaming?”
“No, I’m an impartial pundit so I make sure I’m across all the games Gary,” Richards joked, “But I was thinking – ‘what are you doing?’ – they’re showing him the wrong way.
“When he hit it I just knew it was going in, it was an incredible finish. He’s just bent it, it was a wonderful strike in the last minute of the game.”
Rabbi Matondo spares Rangers’ blushes at the death v Celtic
The Welshman has had an interesting career at Ibrox so far, having only scored five goals in 54 appearances since joining the club in July 2022.
Matondo has certainly discovered some form under Philippe Clement, however, netting four of those five goals in his last eight appearances, scoring an almost identical goal against Hibernian on Saturday 30 March.
Clement will be very glad that the winger has hit a purple patch at this point in the season, with Rangers having the chance to lift just their second Scottish Premiership title in the last decade.
Though they will be disappointed not to beat their Old Firm rivals, the Gers took one step closer to the title, with a win over Dundee in their game in hand on Wednesday 10 April will see them shoot to the top of the table.

Clement has done an incredible job already at Ibrox, lifting the League Cup earlier this season, but beating Brendan Rodgers will still be on his list of achievements.
The Belgian will have another chance to accomplish this, though the main focus for now will be on the upcoming Scottish Premiership fixtures and keeping Rangers’ future in their own hands.
