Rangers: Gabby Agbonlahor fires ‘biased’ dig at Chris Sutton in draw v Celtic

Gabby Agbonlahor has accused Chris Sutton of bias towards Celtic as Rangers salvaged a 3-3 draw in the Old Firm derby at Ibrox on Sunday (7 April).

A difficult first half saw the Hoops take a 2-0 lead into the break, with Daizen Maeda’s 22-second opener doubled from the spot by Matt O’Riley.

James Tavernier offered hope via a spot-kick after Fabio Silva drew a foul in the penalty area, with substitute Abdallah Sima equalising four minutes from time. Goals from Adam Idah and Rabbi Matondo cancelled each other out during a thrilling final few minutes.

Taking to X after the match on Sunday (7 April), Sutton wrote: “Incredible game. Great advert for Scottish football. Celtic controlled the first half and should have been out of site.

“The Rangers penalty award rewarding Silva for diving was embarrassing and changed the dynamic. Idah’s goal sensational, as was Matondo’s leveller.”

In response, Abgonlahor simply replied: “Biased commentary Chris.”

Rangers keep Scottish Premiership faith alive with Celtic draw

Though Philippe Clement will have ideally preferred all three points at Ibrox, a draw against their Old Firm rivals is not the worst result in the world, especially after going 2-0 down in the first half.

The Gers remain just one point behind Celtic, and with a game in hand against Dundee FC on the horizon, they still have the upper hand over the Hoops.

Once Rangers had equalised, the atmosphere at Ibrox was electric, something that pushed the players to complete the comeback, even after going behind once again to Idah’s late goal.

The Old Firm derby was always going to be filled with contentious decisions, especially after the drama surrounding John Beaton’s controversial appointment as referee.

With two penalties awarded and many yellow cards, opinions are bound to be flying around from both sets of fans, though the media should be offering a much more neutral view.
