Rangers vs Celtic: Chris Sutton shocked at what he saw Yang Hyun-jun do in Old Firm at Ibrox

Chris Sutton slammed Yang Hyun-jun for failing to block the superb goal scored by Rabbi Matondo in the 3-3 draw between Rangers and Celtic.

Matondo scored the final goal in a six-goal thriller in Sunday’s (7 April) Old Firm clash at Ibrox, finding the net in the third minute of added time.

Celtic had a chance to cut out the danger before the Wales international pulled the trigger, but he made the most of some slack defending.

“What a ridiculous game,” Sutton said on Sky Sports Football [7 April, 1:53pm]. “That is brilliant from Matondo, but I cannot believe Yang lets him inside.

“It’s a wonderful finish. Joe Hart has no chance. What else can this game give us?”

Rangers play out 3-3 classic with Celtic at Ibrox

Matondo deserves huge praise for rescuing Rangers a late point in an incredible derby – one that the Light Blues trailed 2-0 at half-time – that quite simply had everything.

Yang could have done more to prevent the goal, but that was one small part in a game that will take days rather than hours to evaluate.

As Sutton says, it was a “ridiculous” contest and the big question to come out of it is who the point benefits more?

Rangers manager Philippe Clement
Philippe Clement has turned things around at Rangers

Before kick-off, Philippe Clement would not have accepted a point. Come the 90th minute, his stance would have no doubt changed.

Ultimately, we will not know until until around seven weeks from now when the Scottish Premiership campaign concludes.

If Rangers are to come out on top by a point – or indeed on goal difference – Matondo’s well-taken goal will be looked back on as the key moment.
