Rangers: Kemar Roofe arrives at Ibrox for Old Firm clash v Celtic
Kemar Roofe has been spotted arriving at Ibrox ahead of the Old Firm clash between Rangers and Celtic on Sunday (7 April).
The 31-year-old forward has been working his way back to full fitness after suffering an injury and was nowhere to be seen as the Gers beat Hibernian in a 3-1 Scottish Premiership victory on Saturday 30 March.
Roofe has only started one match since Rangers’ 3-0 win over St Mirren in October. And despite showing up to Ibrox with his teammates, the forward will not be involved against Celtic.
Taking to X on Sunday (7 April), Football Scotland posted an image, with the caption: “Philippe Clement’s men have arrived suited and booted at Ibrox. Team news from both camps coming shortly,” with Roofe pictured with the squad.
Could Kemar Roofe return for Rangers in the Old Firm derby?
Considering the injuries that Philippe Clement’s team have suffered from this season, Roofe’s timely return would have been a huge boost for Rangers. Sadly, it looks as though he is just there for support.
The rivals are separated by just one point at the top of the Scottish Premiership, with Rangers’ second league title in the last decade at stake.
Rangers do have one game in hand, however, after their fixture against Dundee FC was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
The Jamaican’s wisdom and experience could have added a lot to Clement’s side on Sunday, though Cyriel Dessers has continued his run in the starting XI, still impressing under the Belgian’s reign.
With Danilo and Oscar Cortes sidelined, Roofe could have been a very useful substitute for Clement to bring on in any eventuality against their Scotland rivals, but Todd Cantwell and Abdallah Sima will add plenty of attacking prowess from the bench.
Rangers will be hoping to put their wrongs right from the Old Firm clash in December, a game which was shrouded in controversy as Celtic took a 2-1 victory away from Celtic Park.
