Rangers: Hampden Park move mooted for Dundee clash in Scottish Premiership

David Tanner has questioned whether a move to Hampden Park could benefit all parties in Rangers upcoming clash with Dundee.

The Gers are set to travel to Dens Park on 10 April but that has faced issues due to their standard of playing surface, which looked shocking against Motherwell on Saturday [06 April].

This has seen support come in from Celtic, as well as drafting help from Burnley and additional turf specialists ahead of the game-in-hand.

As a result of this, there has been an ongoing conversation regarding the game being played at a neutral venue such as Airdrie.

Tanner of TalkSport has taken to X to moot a potential alternative: “Should Dundee be allowed to move their delayed game against Rangers to Hampden?”

“The revenue from the larger crowd would help contribute towards a drainage upgrade in the close season. I imagine it would be less upsetting for the fans than Tannadice being used to bail out Dundee.”

What is the situation with Rangers and Dundee?

There was a concern originally that Dundee’s game with Motherwell (6 April) wouldn’t go ahead due to pitch concerns. These were put to bed after a pitch inspection.

It was clear from the club’s perspective that they were desperate to get the game on and were clearly pleased when it was confirmed.

Despite the referee judging that the game should go ahead, it did come as a surprise to many when looking at the pitch itself.

With visible patches of sand on the pitch where the ball struggled to bounce it was a controversial call for the fixture to go ahead.

This has certainly left Rangers fans worried for the safety of their players and the potential of playing a game on the surface at Dens Park.

Realistically, the game needs to be moved to a neutral venue if it gets any worse unless Dundee can provide an acceptable pitch.

As Tanner suggested, making use of Hampden may not be the worst idea.
