James McClean mocks Wolves loanee Fabio Silva as footage of Rangers incident v Celtic emerges on Sky Sports

James McClean has mocked Wolves loanee Fabio Silva after the Rangers forward went down clutching his face in the 3-3 Scottish Premiership draw with Celtic at Ibrox on Sunday.

Not long after Matt O’Riley put the Hoops 2-0 ahead in the Scottish Premiership clash, Silva went down clutching his face after a coming together with Alistair Johnston.

John Beaton booked Johnston for the foul but replays showed there was absolutely nothing in it while Silva was writhing around in fake agony on the deck.

Ex-West Brom winger McClean, who is a boyhood Celtic fan and currently plays for Wrexham in England’s League Two, took to his personal Instagram account to hit out at the loaned-out Wolves forward for his antics.

“State of that,” said McClean on 7 April, as well as posting three laughing emojis along with footage of Silva’s histrionics.

How much did Wolves pay for Rangers loanee Fabio Silva?

It’s hard to believe that Wolves actually paid real money for Silva.

In September 2020, the Premier League club paid an astonishing £35million to sign the Portuguese attacker from Porto.

Since then, the 21-year-old has been sent out on loan to Anderlecht, PSV and – of course – Rangers. However, he’s failed to light it up at any of those clubs.

In 72 appearances for Wolves, the striker has scored just five times. In 32 games at Anderlecht, he netted 11 times, which is admittedly not bad but it’s also playing in the Belgian league.

At PSV, five goals were scored in 19 games in what is also a weak league away from the top teams.

In Scotland, the Molineux flop has scored four times in 16 games.

Silva could be averaging a goal a game but he still wouldn’t be getting anyone’s respect when he’s playing up like this.

When Rangers are up against it, the last thing you want is a player trying to cheat and we would like the referees to clamp down on this pathetic behaviour.

The SFA should do Rangers a favour and retrospectively ban Silva for the rest of the season for his embarrassing reaction to running into Johnston.
