Rangers v Celtic: BBC pundit issues Ibrox prediction as Philippe Clement faces Brendan Rodgers

Derek Ferguson isn’t interested in Rangers taking a point from their clash with Celtic on Sunday (7 April) and has tipped them to record a vital win.

While the Light Blues have come up short in both of the previous Old Firm meetings this term, under both Michael Beale and Philippe Clement respectively, the pundit feels they have been “so close” that he predicts home advantage to tip the balance in the Gers’ favour this time.

With Brendan Rodgers bringing his side to Govan leading the SPFL by just a point but having played a game more it is again likely to be a tightly contested affair, but in front of the Ibrox crowd the influence of Clement has given BBC Sport pundit Ferguson confidence in a positive result.

He exclusively told Ibrox News: “I don’t want a draw. Of course you always want a win. Celtic have beaten us a couple of times, but they’ve been so close.

“This game on Sunday is not going to be any different, it’s going to be so tight, so close. It could be a piece of magic or a mistake.

“But I’ve just got a feeling that it’s going to fall Rangers’ way, and I think that’s down to home advantage as well.

“And the manager has over six months to work with these guys so they know the task at hand. They’re going up against the champions, there will be a reaction.

“But I’m more confident that we can just get over the line on Sunday.”

Philippe Clement backed to secure first Old Firm victory at Rangers

It is arguably the biggest single objective that the Ibrox boss needs to achieve this term to get a win over Celtic, after both of his predecessors failed to maintain an acceptable record in this fixture.

Even if he goes on to win the title, and potentially a domestic treble which looked utterly fanciful when he first arrived, he will have one major millstone around his neck if he hasn’t beaten Rodgers and the Hoops.

So having rejuvenated this side and in front of the home fans this looks like a major opportunity to get over that hump, and take a major step towards the Scottish Premiership crown.
