Rangers: Dujon Sterling wanted to partner John Lundstram in ‘key battle area’ vs Celtic at Ibrox
Dujon Sterling should start alongside John Lundstram in the Rangers midfield to face Celtic, says Derek Ferguson.
The ex-Ibrox favourite believes that will be a “key battle area” at Ibrox on Sunday (7 April) and the former Chelsea man would help win that battle.
Sterling, 24, has more recently been utilised as a winger but unless injuries force Philippe Clement’s had elsewhere Ferguson believes he is most effective in the middle of the park.
“I think a lot of fans and a lot of pundits think he could take Scott Wright’s place,” he said, speaking exclusively to Ibrox News.
“I’d prefer him to be in beside Lundstram because I think that’s going to be a key battle area come Sunday.
“Celtic are very strong in the middle of the park, so I’d like to see Sterling in there beside Lundstram, and maybe [Mohamed] Diomande moving one up with [Todd] Cantwell, supporting [Cyriel] Dessers up top.
“The manager keeps his cards close to his chest in terms of the fitness of the players and we have got one or two back.
“But certainly Sterling is one that I’d have in my starting XI for sure.”

Philippe Clement to deploy Rangers ace in midfield battle ground?
Sterling has already stepped up on a crucial occasion to make a major difference in midfield once this term after putting in a man of the match performance in the Viaplay Cup final win over Aberdeen on 17 December.
If Clement decides to use him there again then he could go a long way to helping Rangers add another trophy with a similar performance against Celtic.
Callum McGregor may be back for Brendan Rodgers and the Light Blues need to negate the visitors strengths so, but a lot likely depends on whether Ridvan Yilmaz makes it back from his own injury to start at left-back in place of Borna Barisic.
In other Rangers news, Lawrence Shankland heading to Ibrox is now seen as a near-certainty according to a journalist.
