Rangers v Celtic: Hugh Keevins shoots down ‘dangerous’ claim ahead of Old Firm clash at Ibrox

Hugh Keevins shot down a “dangerous” claim made by a caller that Rangers are not capable of winning this weekend’s Old Firm with Celtic.

The caller from Stirling and named Andy argued his case on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on Wednesday evening (3 April).

However, Keevins disagreed that Philippe Clement’s side do not have the quality to overcome Celtic for the first time this season.

“Dangerous talk,” he said in response to Andy’s call. “You say Rangers don’t have the ability [to beat Celtic], but that’s a difficult one to prove.

“In the period of time in which Brendan Rodgers has been Celtic manager, and Philippe Clement has been Rangers manager, Rangers have more points than Celtic.

“Clement has changed absolutely everything about Rangers. Yes, there may have been games they were toothless, but the same applies to Celtic.

“You can’t dismiss Rangers as you have done. Surely, the passage of time since Clement has been here – in Europe as well – he’s showed he’s transformed them.”

Rangers vs Celtic could be Scottish Premiership title decider

The time for talking is almost over. This Old Firm is as hotly anticipated as any in recent times due to what is on the line.

There may not be a cup up for grabs, but the winner this weekend will be favourites to go on and land the title.

Celtic have got the better of the Gers in the previous two encounters this season, but things have changed over the past few months.

The Light Blues are now far more ruthless and have the ability to get the job done, which will hopefully be the case this weekend.

Whether or not a point will be a positive result remains to be seen, but the Gers will head into the game with the intention of winning it.

For all of Celtic’s confidence, it is up to the Gers’ players to show they have what it takes to win the game that really counts.
