Rangers: ‘Big money’ transfer update shared as Saudi Arabian clubs eye James Tavernier

Saudi Arabian clubs are willing to pay big to land Rangers captain James Tavernier, according to Alex Crook.

The talkSPORT reporter shared the update via the broadcaster’s website on Thursday (4 April), adding that Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq are among the interested parties.

Tavernier is said to be a “big-money” target for the mega-rich clubs after becoming the highest-scoring British defender of all time last week.

James Tavernier transfer latest at Rangers

In the words of Philippe Clement, Tavernier has been “exceptional” for Rangers, not just this season but throughout his time at the club.

While he has come in for criticism from supporters at times, including earlier this season, the full-back has always fronted up.

A large amount of his goals tally may be made up of penalties, but his record from the spot has been superb.

Tavernier also regularly chips in with goals from open play, bailing out the Gers countless times.

Should he be snapped up by a Saudi Arabian club – or a team from anywhere for that matter – it would leave an almighty void to be filled.

Money talks, of course, but unless a considerable sum is offered, Rangers should not consider cashing in this summer.

Tavernier’s time at Ibrox will come to an end eventually, and he will bow out with club legend status when he does so.
