Rangers: SFA fine on cards for Hibernian after latest developments

Dan Plumley has insisted that the SFA could fine Hibernian after their social media post on Rangers during the 3-1 win at Ibrox on 30 March.

It was shared that disciplinary action was on the cards for Hibs after they made a penalty jibe against the Bears, writing on X: “Penalty to Rangers. Who had 20 minutes?”

The finance expert admitted that it could be any punishment from a fine to a regulation change, although he did insist that it looks like something that could be swept aside quietly.

“We don’t really know because we are in this new era with social media where it can be brilliant but it can also land players and clubs in hot water,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“I guess it is a wider one to look at in terms of what clubs are putting out there on their social media channels that they are in control over.

I think this one, most people will say ‘Come on, it’s a little bit tongue in cheek, is there a need for action?’.

It is plausible we could see slaps on the wrist or fines or a change in regulations about how clubs use their platforms.

I guess all things are within range, personally, I think it’s one we can just push aside and leave alone, maybe a bit of a conversation but nothing more.

It could lead to something more serious in the future.”

Tam McManus was one of the first to react to the news, insisting that the world will have gone mad if this leads to action against Hibernian.

With so much spotlight on officials in Scotland, the last thing that needs to happen is clubs coming out and making statements such as these.

While a punishment may seem harsh, it cannot be allowed to continue to happen.
