Rangers: Dapo Mebude wants dream Ibrox return in starring role

Dapo Mebude says Rangers is his “home” and has revealed his desire to one day return and become the “main man” at Ibrox.

Mebude, 22, made just one senior appearance for Rangers before moving to Watford, where he was loaned out to AFC Wimbledon before landing permanently at current employers – Belgian outfit Oostende.

However, the versatile forward – who can play on the left wing or up front – is keen to come back to Glasgow and star for the club where he spent a decade developing and growing up, telling The Athletic: “One of my goals is to go back to Rangers one day.

“I would love to be the main man scoring goals at Ibrox. That’s my home.”

Mebude was an impressive talent in his academy days, scoring freely across various youth teams at Rangers, but he has yet to translate that into success in his senior career.

He gained valuable first-team experience in League One with AFC Wimbledon in 2021/22, making 32 appearances across all competitions for the English third-tier side – but setbacks have prevented him from building on that momentum in Belgium.

Mebude was used sparingly in his first season with Oostende, afforded few chances as the club were relegated to the second division.

Dropping down a tier brought with it greater likelihood that Mebude would be given more opportunities to demonstrate his quality, but a car accident has prevented him from making the impact he could have this term.

When he returns, the forward will be keen to make up for lost time and begin to fulfil his considerable potential. If and when he manages to do that, Rangers will surely welcome him home with open arms.
