Rangers: Timeframe for Ianis Hagi transfer decision at Ibrox set amid Galatasaray links

Ianis Hagi will make a decision on his Rangers future after the European Championship finals, according to Romanian journalist Marian Olaianos.

Olaianos shared the update via Rangers Review [2 April] after the player’s father Gheorghe this week said he is unsure where Ianis will end up.

The 25-year-old is on loan with Alaves and has also been linked with a move to Turkish heavyweights Galatasaray.

Olaianos said: “Ianis will decide his future after the Euros. The Euros is really important. I know Ianis loves Rangers, he loves the city of Glasgow very much.

“We are talking these days in Romania about his transfer to Galatasaray – probably one day we will get there too. But I don’t think it will happen this summer.

“If Rangers want him back I don’t think it will be a problem because Ianis has a contract with Rangers and in the next season Ianis, I think, will mean a lot for the team.”

Hagi’s immediate focus is on performing for Alaves, for whom he has yet to score for and assisted just one goal in 18 LaLiga outings.

The Romania international helped his national side quality for Euro 2024, however, where they are up against Belgium, Slovakia and Ukraine.

It is understandable that Hagi wants to focus on that major tournament, but at the same time, the Gers cannot be left in limbo.

The Gers know that the ball is ultimately in their court as the former Genk player is under contract at Ibrox until the end of the 2025-26 season.

Whether Philippe Clement wants to retain him beyond this summer is another question. If not, the club could do with finding a bidder early in the window.

Whether his future is at Rangers, Alaves, Galatasaray or anywhere else, let’s hope this is not a saga that drags on through the window.
