Rangers: Lawyer shares Police Scotland verdict ahead of Celtic clash at Ibrox

Police Scotland will likely be faced with complaints from Celtic fans about chants from Rangers fans during the Old Firm derby on Sunday (7 April).

That is according to Thomas Leonard Ross, a lawyer for His Majesty’s Council, who believes armchair Celtic fans will be “listening for something to complain about” when it comes to the songs being sung.

Ross goes on to state that this has “been the case for years”, with lawyers greeted by several angry emails from fans all over the world after an Old Firm derby.

Writing for the Scottish Daily Mail on Tuesday (3 April, page 69), Ross said: “Police Scotland will be inundated with complaints from Celtic fans who have watched the game on TV.

“They will have the volume turned up full blast, listening for something to complain about in terms of the songs from Rangers fans. That’s been the case for years anyway.

“I had a pal whose mate used to work for FIFA as a lawyer. He would go in, open his email inbox on a Monday morning, and there would be maybe 20 emails.”

Police Scotland hands full ahead of Rangers v Celtic

The police will forever be busy when Rangers face Celtic, either at Celtic Park or Ibrox. And this match will be no different, with an incredible amount of pride on the line for both rivals.

The upcoming Old Firm clash could be the one defining factor in this season’s Scottish Premiership, with just one point currently separating the rivals at the top of the table.

The Gers have experienced a drastic turnaround since the appointment of Philippe Clement in October, helping the Ibrox faithful believe that a second Scottish Premiership title in the last decade is possible.

All hope of this looked lost under Michael Beale’s reign, but the situation has definitely changed under Clement, who has already lifted the Scottish Cup this season.

Of course, with many rivalries in football, police will be involved in some capacity. But the hope is that any interference will not overshadow the occasion at Ibrox as the Gers look to knock Celtic off their top perch once again.
