Rangers: ‘No doubt’ Callum McGregor will make Celtic return for Old Firm showdown at Ibrox
Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor will definitely return from injury to play in the Old Firm showdown with Rangers at Ibrox, according to Barry Ferguson.
The Light Blues face Brendan Rodgers’ side on Sunday (7 April) as they look to end their winless record against their Glasgow rivals in the Premiership this season and return to the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
Hoops captain McGregor hasn’t featured since Celtic’s win over Dundee in February, but former Gers captain Ferguson has no doubts the 30-year-old will return to the starting XI for Sunday’s trip to Ibrox.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (1 April, 14:13) he said: “He’ll play. He’ll play, no doubt about that.”
Stephen McGinn agreed saying: “I’m expecting Callum McGregor to play, he’s so important and I think he’ll be desperate to be out there. Potentially, had it not been the surface he might of got a run-out at some point yesterday.”
Will Callum McGregor be fit to play for Celtic against Rangers in the Old Firm derby?
Rangers will know that they need a win against Celtic on Sunday if they want to lift the Premiership title this term. The Light Blues haven’t impressed against the Hoops this term and that simply has to change sooner rather than later.
Celtic’s recent dip in form has coincided with McGregor’s recent absence and the Gers would feel more confident heading into Sunday’s meeting if they knew for sure that the 30-year-old was going to be stuck on the treatment table.

However, Philippe Clement’s side have to focus on their own plans rather than their rivals’ problems if they want to be successful this term. At their best, the Gers have shown they can beat anybody they face this term, now they just have to prove it against Rodgers’ Hoops.
Hopefully, McGregor won’t be ready in time to play the full 90 minutes at Ibrox, but even if he is, Rangers should be going into this clash full of confidence, especially having dismantled Hibernian last time out.
