Rangers: Micah Richards shares James Tavernier transfer verdict after news at Ibrox
Micah Richards has questioned why James Tavernier would want to leave Rangers after the latest rumours linking him with an exit from Ibrox.
The former Manchester City defender insisted that being a legend at Rangers is worth more than moving to the Premier League or even the Championship, and it would make no sense to leave.
Tavernier had been linked with a move to join Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, while he had separately been touted for a possible move to the Premier League.
Speaking on the BBC Monday Night Club, Richards shared: “It’s where you’re happy, isn’t it? Obviously, he’s played in England, he’s had a few loans and he was at Newcastle. I do believe he probably wasn’t getting the love when he went to these clubs.
“It’s just about a feeling, isn’t it? Rangers and Celtic are massive clubs and if you know you can be the best player every single week while captaining a massive club, or you could go to the Premier League, not settle, and maybe drop down to the Championship, I would rather be at Rangers.
“He knows exactly what he’s going to get. He’s a Rangers legend. That’s what we’re talking about. When you look back, you can say ‘I’m a Rangers legend’ and that must mean something.”

Richards’ claim is spot on – why would he want to leave Rangers and everything it represents and where he holds the captaincy and the love of the supporters to move to a club which may prove more lucrative but without that attachment?
Jeff Stelling, meanwhile, insisted he wouldn’t have the option to join a Premier League club given his age despite his impressive performances which have seen him break records at Ibrox, including his latest “astonishing” performances.
The captain was terrific again as he helped his side to the 3-1 win against Hibernian at Ibrox despite having rather uncharacteristically missed a penalty in the first half, before minutes later firing his team ahead after a late run into the box.

With a crucial clash against Celtic coming up, Tavernier will prove crucial to any Rangers victory, and if they can secure all three points it would put them on course for another SPFL win, further cementing his status as a legend.
