Rangers: Sky Sports pundit slams ‘rubbish’ Old Firm v Celtic notion ahead of Ibrox clash

Kenny Miller insists the notion that either Rangers or Celtic will settle for a point in next weekend’s Old Firm clash is “rubbish”.

Celtic head into the showdown at Ibrox on 7 April sitting a point better off than the Gers, albeit having played a game more.

A point would technically therefore suit Rangers more as it would leave the title in their own hands heading into the final stretch.

However, writing in his column for the Daily Record [31 March], Miller said: “If you’re the team in front, a draw against your closest rivals isn’t a bad result.

“But in this fixture’s history, no Celtic or Rangers manager has ever gone into a derby looking for a point.

“That’s just rubbish. It’s impossible to imagine. What I would say ahead of Sunday is that IF Rangers lose the game the title is still alive.

“They would probably only be a point back with games still to play. But if they were to win it? The championship would be theirs to lose.”

Rangers trail Celtic heading into Old Firm

The table never lies, so the saying goes, but it does not tell the whole story at this moment in time.

By virtue of the Dundee game being postponed late on a couple of weeks ago, Rangers heading into this crunch fixture sitting second.

However, their fate is in their own hands from this point and Philippe Clement will be targeting all three points against Celtic in a week’s time.

The circumstances during the game may alter that view, of course, such as a player being sent off like in the most recent meeting.

Before a ball is kicked, though, no Rangers fans would take a point. This is a chance to lay down a marker and the Gers squad will be up for it.

Celtic have had the better of this fixture too many times of late. That will change next weekend in a huge step closer to snatching the title back.
