Rangers: Sam Lammers forcing Ibrox transfer decision as Philippe Clement latest to take blame

Rangers flop Sam Lammers is seemingly trying his absolute best to force a permanent exit from Ibrox after his latest comments.

In what is now a weekly occurrence, Lammers has tried to defend his terrible six-month spell at Rangers prior to being loaned out.

The Dutchman was sent to Utrecht in the January transfer window after failing to make any sort of impact for Rangers.

Lammers partially puts the blame on Philippe Clement, plus predecessor Michael Beale, for using him in the wrong position.

“I played more at No.10 at Rangers,” Lammers said in a new interview, as per the Daily Record [31 March].

“I didn’t actually play a single match there as a striker. At Rangers, I suddenly ended up on the bench and then I didn’t even get on anymore.”

Lammers went on to more than hint that he would like to remain at Utrecht permanently, especially if they qualify for European football.

These comments come on the back of the 26-year-old saying he feels much more wanted with the Eredivisie side compared to at Ibrox.

Not all transfers work out and there are often multiple reasons for that. In this instance, Lammers just simply could not adapt.

Even if not playing as an out-and-out striker, Beale persisted with him and he was given plenty of opportunities by successor Clement.

In 31 games as a Rangers player, the multi-million-pound signing scored two goals and assisted another – a terrible return for an attacking player.

At Utrecht, it is three goals and three assists in 10 appearances, so clearly there is a player in there somewhere.

Unfortunately for Lammers, his time at Ibrox is surely up. Should Utrecht qualify for Europe, a permanent deal seems the best option for all.
