Rangers: Ferguson raves about ‘just incredible’ James Tavernier amid Ibrox transfer exit links
Derek Ferguson has raved over the “incredible” moments that James Tavernier has contributed to Rangers ahead of the possibility of a summer departure.
The former Gers midfielder believes the captain has earned the right to take up a move if he so chooses having been “brilliant” in Govan over the past nine seasons.
Tavernier, 32, reportedly remains a target for a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League [HITC, 14 March], and not just for Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq.
So after shouldering the pressure across 450 games for the club he would leave with the pundit’s “blessings” if the defender was minded to do so.
The Ibrox captain has once again been outstanding for the Light Blues this season, currently leading the scoring charts with 22 in all competitions.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “I’ve seen him score some incredible goals. The one at Ross County, I was working, he picks it up inside his own half and you think ‘we’re you going?’ Next thing he puts it in the top right-hand corner.
“It was just incredible, and that’s just one of so many goals, and it’s big moments.
“And he’s taken pressurised penalty kicks as well. Other players you look about and they don’t want to take that mantle, and take that pressure.
“He stood up and took that pressure like a good Rangers captain and scored the goals.
“So if he gets the opportunity he goes with my blessings, he’s been brilliant for us.”

Rangers captain has secured place in Ibrox history
If a huge offer came in from the Saudi Pro League then it might convince the Light Blues and their captain to take the money.
Otherwise it isn’t clear whether the Englishman is interested in departing although there were various rumours in January.
It may be that the more successful the end to the campaign the more likely he would go, as a domestic treble might not leave much unfinished business behind in Scotland.
But Philippe Clement already looks to be building something at Ibrox, barring a major collapse, so after slogging through two testing campaigns in the SPFL Tavernier might not want to give up his place in what looks like it could be an impressive era under the Belgian too early.
In other Rangers news, Michael Stewart exploded at Light Blues controversy that made him want to “give up”.
