Rangers must ask more questions of Scottish officials as controversial image emerges v Hibs
Rangers must ask more questions about the standard of officiating in Scotland after an image emerged of Scott Wright’s disallowed goal against Hibernian.
After a lengthy VAR check to award the penalty in the first place, Rangers were then forced to sit through another as the officials searched for a way to disallow the rebound goal, ultimately deciding Wright had encroached.
However, in an image shared by Four Lads Had A Dream on X, how Wright could have been judged to be encroaching in the penalty area will be up for debate.
Philippe Clement ultimately led his team to a 3-1 victory, but the lengthy use of VAR will again pull attention towards refereeing decisions at Ibrox.
More controversy strikes Rangers at Ibrox
Clement’s team are no strangers to controversial refereeing decisions this season whether they’re at Ibrox or elsewhere, with countless debatable calls going against them, with this the latest in a long catalogue from the Scottish officials.
Rangers in particular have been heavily crucial of referees already this season, with both Alan Muir and Willie Collum coming under fire for controversial calls against the Ibrox club, going as far as to suggest Collum must be banned from officiating their games.
Most recently they were left frustrated as the SPFL clash against Dundee at Dens Park was cancelled with under two hours notice after referee Don Robertson did not arrive at the game to make the decision until after the Rangers squad, leaving Chris Sutton fuming.
Sutton has also recently discussed what he labelled as “conspiracy theories” after it was shared that officials in the SPFL don’t have to declare which team they support, leading to the possibility of having a Celtic fan refereeing a Rangers game and vice versa.
There can be no debate that decisions, whether they are simply questionable like the one against Hibs, or outright incorrect calls like the one at Celtic Park, have gone against Rangers this season, causing further frustration for the fans.
