Rangers: Kris Boyd reaction shared live on Sky Sports after Cyriel Dessers goal v Hibernian

Sky Sports presenter Simon Thomas shared Kris Boyd’s reaction as Cyriel Dessers scored for Rangers to put them a goal ahead going into half-time against Hibernian at Ibrox.

Thomas joked that Boyd was grinning as the goal went in, with Rangers going back to the top of the league as a result of the 3-1 victory, leapfrogging Celtic in the process.

Dessers’ goal came shortly before half-time to give Philippe Clement’s team the lead just five minutes after conceding an equaliser courtesy of Myziane Maolida.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News [30 March, 15:52], Thomas shared: “You should’ve seen the smile on Boyd’s face, and why not? Todd Cantwell was going absolutely mad as well celebrating Dessers’ goal which has given them a half-time lead.

“It puts Rangers back at the top of the pile, two points ahead of Celtic who play tomorrow. What a first half it’s been at Ibrox, plenty of drama.”

Dessers has struggled at times since arriving at Ibrox, but his goal against Hibs proved crucial to securing the win for Rangers. Going into half-time with a one-goal lead meant they could dominate the second half and ease towards victory.

However, his inconsistency in front of goal was highlighted again as he squandered several chances to make an impressive victory even more comfortable. Those inconsistencies are what have raised questions about his ability to start up top every week.

The return of Abdallah Sima, meanwhile, may put increased pressure on Dessers given his form for Rangers before his injury, with his goalscoring instincts and pace making him a vastly different option to lead the line at Ibrox.

With a crucial top-of-the-table Old Firm clash with Celtic next on the agenda amid a tense title race, Clement will be left with a difficult decision about who starts up front, with both strikers making a strong case.

Dessers’ goal against Hibs could swing that call in his favour.
