Rangers: Borna Barisic exit update emerges as Ibrox defender in line for Hibs start
Borna Barisic is believed to be one of two players who have agreed terms to sign for Trabzonspor this summer, when the Rangers defender’s Ibrox contract expires, according to Yunus Emre Sel.
Answering a question on his YouTube livestream (33m) late on 28 March the Sabah and Fotomac journalist accepted he could not confirm 100% as he had not seen the Croatian’s signature on the document, but understood his deal had been done to leave Glasgow in the summer.
He was unaware of the identity of the second player although there was no indication that it was John Lundstram, after the Gers midfielder was also linked to a move to the Turkish club this week with his own contract ticking down [Akdeniz Gercek, 27 March].
Barisic, 31, has lost his starting role to Ridvan Yilmaz and has been heavily courted for a move to the Turkish Super Lig, with the Light Blues reportedly deciding to keep hold of the younger left-back as a result.
But with Yilmaz, 22, hurt over the international break and set to miss the visit of Hibs on 30 March the veteran will still be called upon before his presumed exit.
Rangers exit a done deal for Borna Barisic?
Regardless of him being required to contribute before the expiry of his contract all signs point towards a new start for Barisic.
Fans will be on edge hoping that Yilmaz does recover sufficiently for the Celtic clash next week (7 April) in order to prevent Barisic from needing to cover in another Old Firm, with Philippe Clement indicating it was unclear whether the Turkey international would definitely be back in time.
By all accounts Trabzonspor are being aggressive ahead of the summer and it appears to be Barisic who they have made the most concerted push for out of everyone, which might come as a surprise to some in Glasgow.
There seems to be little blocking from them being successful in that pursuit, and so it seems an announcement is now all that is waiting in that regard.
A attempt to snap up Lundstram while they were at it seems far less likely, and indeed more damaging to Rangers were it to happen.
But after it seems there is a belief that the Barisic deal is now done and waiting official confirmation.
