Rangers: Andy Walker slams ‘dangerous’ Ibrox management in new John Lundstram exit verdict
Rangers have been slammed by Andy Walker for playing a “dangerous game” with their “poor management” of John Lundstram’s contract at Ibrox.
The Englishman’s current deal in Glasgow is set to expire at the end of the season, with reports suggesting that Turkish club Trabzonspor are interested in securing his signature on a free transfer.
While it remains to be seen whether or not the 30-year-old agrees new terms with Philippe Clement’s side, Sky Sports pundit Walker has been quick to criticise the Gers for not getting this deal over the line sooner.
Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (28 March, 30:50) he said: “Lundstram I think is in the same boat as Borna Barisic. He’s a really good player and you should get money for them, you should not allow them to run down their contracts.
“It’s poor management. Listen he might stay on and listen good luck to him. Guys like that, you want to look after them and you’re just playing a dangerous game allowing any player, especially one in such good form to go to the end of their contract and have their pick of clubs.”
Will John Lundstram leave Rangers for Trabzonspor on a free transfer?
The suggestion from in and around Ibrox is that the Gers will be doing all that they can to keep Lundstram beyond the end of his current contract despite the growing interest in the midfielder abroad.
As Walker suggested, the Englishman has arguably been the Light Blues’ best and most consistent player under Philippe Clement’s management and it would be a massive blow to lose him for nothing at the end of the season.

While the likes of Nicolas Raskin and Mohamed Diomande arguably have the higher ceiling, neither midfield star has been as consistent at Ibrox. Clement’s side would be much weaker without Lundstram week in and week out.
Whether or not new terms are agreed before the end of the season remains to be seen, but the criticism of the Ibrox board will continue for the foreseeable future whilst key players’ futures remain unclear.
