Barry Ferguson drops Borna Barisic verdict as he eyes next move after Rangers

Borna Barisic will be more than willing to play his part even if he is eyeing his next move after Rangers, Barry Ferguson has said.

It was reported, as per Football Scotland, that Turkish side Trabzonspor have tabled an offer for the Croatian full-back, who is out of contract at Ibrox this summer.

While the deal has not been completed, some are worried that the possible transfer could be a distraction for the player as the Gers aim to pip Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title.

With uncertainty over whether Ridvan Yilmaz will be fit to face the Hoops on Sunday 7 April, Ferguson wrote for Daily Record on Friday (29 March): “Borna Barisic might have to step back into the line-up and I have no qualms at all about that.

“Yes, he may be coming towards the end of his time at the club but his commitment to the cause has never been in doubt. If this is going to be his last few months in Glasgow then I am positive he’ll want to bow out with another championship in his bag.

“There could be no better way to say goodbye after so many years of service. Borna has obviously been heavily linked with a potential move to Trabzonspor and, as he’s out of contract this summer, he may have an eye on his next move.”

Will Borna Barisic be distracted as Rangers push for the Scottish Premiership title?

The potential absence of Yilmaz would be a huge blow ahead of the Old Firm derby in April, having come into his own since the arrival of Clement in October.

Due to the Turkish defender’s brilliant form, Barisic has taken a back seat at Ibrox, making just three appearances in the last 10 matches.

However, the 31-year-old is an absolute professional, one who can certainly be trusted to show up if called upon for the all-important clash against Celtic.

Borna Barisic has been a solid servant at Rangers

Having signed for Rangers in August 2018, Barisic has experienced multiple Old Firm derbies and will know exactly what it means to the Ibrox faithful, especially when the club have the chance to win the league title.

Rangers have only lifted the Scottish Premiership title once in the last decade, but the Croatian could still play a key role in the end-of-season run-in before moving on to Trabzonspor in Turkey.
