Rangers transfer news: John Lundstram contract update emerges amid Trabzonspor links
Rangers and Philippe Clement remain keen to tie John Lundstram down to a new contract at Ibrox amid interest from Trabzonspor, according to Chris Jack.
The Rangers Review journalist reported that the offer of a new deal is still on the table, but the Turkish club would likely be able to offer a more lucrative deal to tempt the midfielder.
Jack insisted that it would come down to whether Lundstram feels a move to Turkey for more money would be better than remaining at Rangers, playing in Europe and competing for trophies.
Speaking on The Rangers Review [28 March], Jack shared: “Personally, I would be surprised, but who knows? I think for any player at his age, you’ve got a decision to make. Do you want to stay and win trophies and play European football, or do you want to maximise your earning potential?
“I would imagine an offer from Turkey would be more lucrative financially than what Rangers would put on the table. If this is a serious option, it comes down to how he sees it.
“I think it’s been clear for the last few weeks that the club are keen to tie him down to a new contract and the manager wants him to stay. The club want to hold on to him and most of the fans would be happy if he stayed.
“Ultimately it comes down to what both parties want from the deal, if it suits both sides, it’ll happen, if it doesn’t, Rangers will have to move on.”
Will John Lundstram leave Rangers this summer?
The midfielder’s outstanding form at Ibrox this season has led to a clamour from both fans and pundits to see him rewarded with a new deal, but interest from Turkey could throw a spanner in the works with the decision resting with Lundstram.
It has been made clear in recent weeks that the intention for Rangers is to get him tied down to a new contract, with both the player and the club keen to get it done, but a more lucrative offer may prove tempting.
Jack had previously suggested that given the title race Clement’s side is currently involved in, the focus would remain on winning the remaining games to pip Celtic to the title, so any contract talks would likely be finalised towards the end of the season.

However, the presence of a competitor in the contract talks means Lundstram will now have a big call to make and must assess the benefits of both offers before making his choice, with all at Rangers hoping he will opt to stay.
